Spiced Orange Hot Toddy

Traditionally, hot toddies are made with lemon and a very specific spice cocktail. We’re shaking it up with orange and a blend of spices that will add a lively edge. It’s flavorful and colorful, and perfect for those cool nights – along with fall and winter holidays.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 bag black tea
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 inch ginger thinly sliced
  • 1 star anise
  • 3 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 orange
  • 2 oz Bourbon

Instructions

  • Wash the orange and cut it in half. Take one half, and use a sharp knife to cut curls of the peel, taking only the orange and as little of the white pith as possible. Juice that half, and discard the rest.
  • Cut the second half into thin slices that you’ll use as garnish.
  • Add the water, orange juice and zest curls, cinnamon sticks, ginger, and star anise to a saucepan.
  • Cover and bring to a gentle boil for about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Add the tea bag, and boil for another minute or so.
  • Remove from the heat, and strain out solids.
  • Stir in the honey and Bourbon, and serve garnished with orange slices.
  • Hint: It's just as good iced as hot!
