Ruby Grapefruit Beauty: Skin Nourishing Masks

Ruby grapefruits are naturally gifted with skin loving nutrients that make it a terrific base for DIY natural skincare. It contains citric acid and vitamin C, along with phytochemicals lycopen – which gives it the red color – and naringin. It has many beneficial properties:

• It’s an astringent that reduces the look of pores;
• It’s antibacterial and antiseptic, so it can effectively clean skin;
• It is anti-inflammatory, which is particularly useful for acne prone skin.

Here are three ways you can use a ruby grapefruit mask to nourish your skin.

i. Grapefruit-Egg White Mask for Oily Skin Types
1 egg white
1 ruby grapefruit, juiced
2 tablespoons sour cream

• Whisk the egg white until it is fluffy and soft in texture.
• Juice the grapefruit into a small bowl.
• Fold the grapefruit juice and the sour cream into the egg whites. Stir well until the mixture is creamy and smooth.
• May be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days.

To Use:
• Cleanse face thoroughly before applying.
• Apply the mask to your face gently with finger, avoiding the area around the eyes.
• Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes.
• Rinse with lukewarm water, and pat the skin dry.
• Follow up with your favorite moisturizer.

ii. Anti-Aging Retinol Mask
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 a cup of oatmeal
1/2 ruby grapefruit, juiced

• Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.
• Mix together thoroughly.

To Use:
• Cleanse face thoroughly before applying.
• Apply the mask to your face gently with finger, avoiding the area around the eyes.
• Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes.
• Rinse with lukewarm water, and pat the skin dry.
• Follow up with your favorite moisturizer.

iii. Ruby Grapefruit Sugar Scrub
This scrub will help to slough off dead skin cells and soften dry skin, while moisturizing.
1/2 grapefruit, juiced
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons grapeseed oil, or sweet almond oil

• Add the grapefruit juice, sugar, and grapeseed oil to a small bowl.
• Fold the ingredients together with a small fork or spoon.

How to Use:
• Use once a week in the shower for smooth, moisturized skin all over.
• Apply to the skin with your fingers, using a gentle, circular motion.
• You can leave it on for 5 minutes or so.
• Rinse off with warm water.
• Pat skin dry, and moisturize as you normally would.
