Bocce tournament scheduled Sunday in Santa Paula

Ventura County Star
By Staff Reports

Four-person teams will compete Sunday in a bocce ball tournament at the Limoneira ranch.

The event is part of the Ventura Corporate Games, which run through May 16 and involve teams from businesses throughout the county.

The tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. More than 40 teams are scheduled to compete.

Bocce is an ancient game that began when soldiers selected a small stone called a leader and threw it onto the ground ahead of them. Then they tried to land larger stones closest to the leader. In today’s game, the leader is called a palladino and bocce is what a competitor throws or rolls closest to it. The bocce that comes closest is awarded a point. Twelve points wins a match.

Visitors and spectators are welcome. The ranch is at 1141 Cummings Road.
