Ingredients

Donuts

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup Greek yogourt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 orange zest & juice

Icing

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Sugar & Spice

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

Instructions

Donuts

  • Preheat the oven to 350 °F and grease a donut pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, measure the flour, baking powder, salt, orange zest, cinnamon and ginger. Whisk to blend the dry ingredients evenly.
  • In a second bowl, beat together the olive oil and yogourt.
  • Add the milk next as you continue to beat.
  • Beat in the egg, and then the orange juice last.
  • Add half the dry ingredients to the wet, and fold until well blended.
  • Repeat until all of the ingredients are blended together.
  • Fill each donut form about 3/4 full with a spoon, or a piping bag if you have one, and bake for about 10 to 12 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the middle should come out clean.
  • Cool for about 5 minutes before turning the pan upside down to cool the donuts thoroughly on a rack.

Icing

  • Beat the sugar and juice together until the sugar has dissolved, and the mixture is smooth. Add more orange juice as needed to produce a runny consistency.
  • Add the orange zest, stir, and spoon over the donuts.

Sugar & Spice

  • Combine the spices thoroughly and spread over a small dish.
  • Brush the donuts one by one with olive oil, and then roll in the spice mix. You can spoon it over the sides you can’t reach by rolling.
  • Enjoy! The donuts will keep in the fridge, covered, for about three days.

Notes

Note: Top them with either the Icing or Sugar & Spice mix – or divide each recipe in half, and coat half your batch with one, and the other half with the other.
