Spiced Oranges

Spiced oranges make a delicious dessert or even a luscious item to add to your brunch menu. The tangy sweetness of oranges takes center stage, enhanced with spices and honey for a rich combination of flavors. Serve it with yogurt, over cake or ice cream.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 oranges
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 lemon juice & zest
  • 6 cardamom pods lightly crushed
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks

Instructions
 

  • Peel the oranges, and cut away as much of the pith as you can.
  • Place the orange in a bowl to catch any juice that escapes, and cut into thin slices.
  • Add the red wine, honey, lemon juice & zest, cardamom, cloves, and cinnamon sticks to a small saucepan over a medium setting.
  • Bring to a simmer, and cook for about 15 minutes. The mixture should thicken a little.
  • Add the orange slices and any reserved juice, and simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes, stirring gently.
  • Remove from the heat, and transfer to a bowl.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to cool.
  • Before serving, remove the cardamom pods, cloves, and cinnamon sticks.
